Hillbilly Day

According to Amqui Station, the first Hillbilly Day was 10 October 1953. "Ladies get out your calico dresses and men get out your overalls because you're going to need them on October the 10th (1953).”
It was a time when young and old would come out and have a real good day. It was always the 2nd Saturday of October. There was a parade every year with several High School Bands, floats, clowns participating; Fish Pond, Country Store and a cakewalk (are we bringing back Memories yet?). Gallatin Road was shut down. Guys would grow beards and folks would dress-up like Hillbillies. The Carnival was set-up down on Gallatin Road. MHS would elect The Hillbilly Queen and The Attendants.
