My Biography

Class Year: 1987
Name: Jon Cupp - (Email)
Bio:

I am submitting this information on behalf of my dad. I am very proud of his accomplishments and I want people to know what he's been doing. Anytime I see the movie Full Medal Jacket, I am reminded of my pop as he is the real-life character "Joker," who was a combat journalist. Dad risked his life in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army journalist taking photos and writing stories. My dad is probably one of the few people from both Madison and Cookeville, Tennessee to receive 2 Bronze Star Medals and to have served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He spent 3 tours of duty in the war zones...one 15-month tour, one 12-month tour and a 9-month tour. All total he spent nearly 3 years in the war zones. He suffered a stroke in Kandahar Afghanistan in May 2013 and then spent 18 months as a patient at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He retired after 21 years of military service. He hasn't been feeling good lately, so I wanted to do this for him. He was in the class of 1987, so his senior class was actually moved from Madison to Hunter's Lane. He's a real hero to me and if you Google his name, "Jon Cupp" combined with Iraq and Afghanistan, you will see some of the combat photos and articles that he wrote. I am including a photo of him getting his first Bronze Star Medal.
