Carl Edward Agee was born in Nashville on October 12, 1941,
and passed into eternity in the wee hours of the morning at home on
August 31, 2021. His life and memory will be treasured by his wife
of almost 58 years, Marie, his beloved children, David and Joanna,
and their spouses Tracy and Beth. He loved his grandchildren
Matthew, Christopher, Zanna, Esme and Oliver beyond measure, and his
two sisters, Judy Hoover and Jan Sarhan. He was preceded in death by
his parents, John and Elizabeth Agee. Carl graduated from Tennessee
Tech and became an early pioneer in computer programming. After
years at IBM, where he learned all there was to know at the time
about programming, he launched his own company, System 3/X, in 1982.
He retired in March 2020 while continuing to work with two of his
long-time clients. Carl took great joy in sharing beauty and music
with the world. He sang with the barbershop chorus Voices of the
South and with the Hoover Songbirds. He created with stained glass
and woodwork, and loved best giving his creations away as gifts. His
storytelling and wit will keep all who loved him retelling his
stories and laughing until we cry for the rest of our days. Carl's
life was dedicated to and lived in service to his Lord. He looked
forward to spending his eternity with Him. Even in our grief, we
celebrate his homecoming. A Celebration of Life will be held in
Birmingham at Homewood Church of Christ at 11 am, Saturday,
September 4. The service will be outdoors, and the family asks that
everyone present wear a mask and observe social distance. In lieu of
flowers, Carl requested that memorial donations be made to Health
Talents International: www.healthtalents.org.
