Lucien Hunter Battle, Sr., Nashville, TN Lucien Hunter Battle, Sr., age 84, passed away May 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert Battle, Sr. and Cleo Smith Battle, and his brother William Robert Battle, Jr. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Hughes Battle, son Lucien Hunter Battle, Jr. (Lucy), daughter Barbara Battle Draffin (Ken), five grandchildren: Benjamin Battle (Kim), Blair Reynolds (Larry), Lauren Draffin, Reed Draffin (Tesla), and Caroline Tigner (Scott), and two great grandchildren: Jackson Hunter Reynolds and Aubrey May Battle; sister, Betty Battle Green. He graduated from Nashville Central High School and held B.S. and M.A. degrees from George Peabody College. He taught at Madison High School, taught and was assistant principal at Overton High School and was principal of Ewing Park Jr High School. While principal at Ewing Park, he was awarded the Human Relations Award by Governor Winfield Dunn and December 17, 1971 was declared Lucien Battle Day in the State of Tennessee. He was a lifetime member of the Nolensville First United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities and taught the Men's Seekers Class for many years. He was an avid collector of antique automobiles. Following in his father's footsteps, he milked cows until he graduated from college and continued to raise beef cattle on the family farm for many years. Visitation will be held Monday, May 15, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, WALLER CHAPEL, 7281 Nolensville Road, Nolensville. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Nolensville First United Methodist Church, 7316 Nolensville Road, with Reverend Donald Sensing officiating. Burial will be in Nolensville Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Benjamin Hunter Battle, Brent Hughes Parrish, Andrew Gist Moody, Kenneth Reed Draffin, William Chrisman, III, Larry Allen Reynolds, William Robert Battle, III, and William Allen Green. Honorary Pallbearers are: Retired Metro Secondary Principals and members of the Seekers Class of Nolensville First United Methodist Church, Gene Barnett, Don Hickman, Don Cornelius, Rick Moody, Glenn Rogers, Phil Boeing, and Buford Hill.
