Obituary

William Michael “Mike” Burns, age 62, of Greenbrier, TN entered into rest, Monday, April 29, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville, TN. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, 4PM at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel with Dr. Fred Baldwin officiating. Mike was born in Nashville, TN on May 5, 1950 to James Edward Burns and Mary Evelyn Robinson Burns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Beau Burns. Mike graduated from Madison High School in 1968 where he was the Co-captain of both the football and basketball teams. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1972 with a degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity. He was a Land Surveyor by profession for over 30 years. He loved his family and friends and took great delight in watching his grandsons play sports. He was a loving and devoted husband to Debbie and they enjoyed going to TPAC, watching their favorite TV shows together, traveling and playing poker with their friends. He was a member and past president of the Lions Club. He coached boys’ baseball and was a past Commissioner of the Baseball League. He loved to cook and spend time with his family. He was a man with a huge heart and was of the Baptist Faith. He is survived by wife, Deborah Lynn Mahlke, Greenbrier, TN; son & daughter-in-law, Michael & Melanie Burns, Greenbrier, TN; step-sons, David Weigand, SC, Stephen Weigand, Wheeling, WV; sisters, Patti (Mark) Whisnant, Doniphan, MO, Tara (Brad) Farrell, Tampa, FL; grandsons, Bailey Burns, Wesley Burns, Joshua Weigand; mother-in-law & Father-in-law, David L. and Katie Mahlke, Wheeling, WV. Friends may visit with his family on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 5-8pm and on Saturday, May 4, 2013 prior to the Celebration of his life from 3-4pm at Austin and Bell Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel.
