Thomas Carlton Collier, Madison, TN. Thomas Carlton Collier, age 77 of Madison, passed away January 9, 2015. He was born in Erin, TN, on April 17, 1937 to the late William and Mae Collier. Whether you knew him as "Thomas," "Carlton," "Coach Collier," or simply "C.C.," he will certainly be missed. Carlton was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, educator and coach. He coached many generations of Nashville and Madison students. His passion for coaching and education was evident to all whose lives he touched. The gymnasium at Hunters Lane High School bears his name, and many of his students still remember him. Carlton and his late wife, Jane, were long-time members at City Road United Methodist Church. Carlton was also an avid golfer, even scoring a couple of holes-in-one in his lifetime! He and his circle of friends - many of whom were educators and coaches - enjoyed hitting the links for a few games. Carlton is survived by his children, John Collier and Lana (Richard) Holman; sisters-in-law, Mary Bates and Norma Collier; grandchildren, Matthew Collier and Devon Holman; and nephew, Joel Collier. Carlton's family will receive friends and visitors on Monday, January 12, 2015 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Reverend Jay Voorhees will preside over a Celebration of Life Service to honor Carlton on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Holy Family Garden of Historic Spring Hill Cemetery with friends and former students serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will include Cumberland Valley Golf Association, Capital City Golf Association, and the Sunday School Class of City Road United Methodist Church.
