Obituary

CORBITT, Lt. Col. Ret USAF Johnnie Bruce Hendersonville, TN -- Age 82 Wednesday, January 5, 2005. Preceded in death by wife, Aurelia Falls Corbitt. Survived by daughters, Carolyn (Terry) Coyle and Gaye Corbitt; son, Allen (Laura) Corbitt; sister, Mary Faye Bumpus; grandchildren, Michelle Coyle and Josh Kemp; great grandchildren, Tyler, Wendy, Samantha and Garrett Bruce. Mr. Corbitt participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1942. After a term as a Flying Instructor, he served in the 9th Army Air Force Europe, 48th Fighter Group, 493rd Fighter Squadron, where he flew P-47s and attained the rank of Captain serving as a Flight Commander in World War II. During and after retiring from the Air Force Reserve, he taught at Madison High School for over 25 years. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville with Dr. Mike Ripski and Rev. Ben Alexander officiating.
