Dr. Edward (Sparky) Clark Edgin, Sr.
Hendersonville - Dr. Edward (Sparky) Clark Edgin, Sr, Age 78 passed
October 1, 2018. Sparky was born to Robert and Zera Ann Edgin,
October 12, 1939 in Betsey's Town, Tennessee. He was raised outside
of Dickson, Tennessee before the family settled in Madison,
Tennessee. He graduated from Madison High School, a well-rounded
athlete in football, baseball and his favorite, basketball. He
graduated from University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee where
he played basketball. He received his Master's in the Art of
Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. Lastly, he received his
Doctorate Degree in English from the University of South Carolina in
Columbia, South Carolina. Sparky married the love of his life,
Beverly Ann Winn in 1965. They started a family and raised their
children in Sewanee, TN, Columbia, SC and settled in Hendersonville,
Tennessee. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Kathleen
Edgin, his parents and 6 brothers. He is survived by his wife,
Beverly, his son, Edward Clark Edgin, Jr and his daughter, Amy Edgin
Smith, his son in law, Lincoln Smith and 3 grandsons, Kolton Smith,
Kooper Smith and Kody Smith; a brother, William Edgin, a sister,
Jean Boyd, a sister Myrna Cox and numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins. Dr Edgin had a passion for church, teaching and basketball.
Dr. Edgin was a college professor of English until he retired in
1999 from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Throughout
his career, he taught at the University of the South, University of
Tennessee at Nashville, Tennessee State University and Lipscomb
University. He was a Deacon at Hendersonville Church of Christ and
an Elder at Community Church in Hendersonville. He was inducted in
the Sewanee Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. A Celebration of Life is
scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Community Church in
Hendersonville, Tennessee, at 1:00pm. Visitation will be from
11:00am - 1:00pm. Graveside service will be at 2:30pm at
Hendersonville Memory Gardens in Hendersonville, Tennessee. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan
Edgin Memorial Scholarship Fund at a Lipscomb University, The Pat
Summit Foundation or Hacienda of Hope through Twickenham Church of
Christ in Huntsville, AL.
