Cheryl Emery Sanders passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the age of 72. She is preceded in death by her father, James H. Emery, and mother, Dorothy Emery McKennon. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Gene Sanders, three sons – Barry Sanders (Jenny), Brian Sanders (Melissa), and Chad Sanders, six grandchildren – Ashley Sanders Lester (Evan), Abby Sanders, Danielle Sanders Shaff (Hunter), Tori Sanders, Preston Sanders, and Laelee Sanders, four great children – Hadleigh Shaff, Hollynn Shaff, Lucas Crague, and Baby Lester, and brother – James Emery (Glenda). Cheryl was born in Nashville, TN on May 17, 1947. While Nashville was home to her for many years, the last decade was spent in Lebanon where Cheryl and her husband, Gene, were active members of Immanuel Baptist Church community. Children were a large part of her life. Whether it was her own sons, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, she was an active part of their lives. Most of her world revolved around being a part of theirs. Cheryl enjoyed traveling with her husband. Most recently in September, they went to Ireland for two weeks. They have traveled to most of the United States together creating memories that would last forever and learning the history of various places. History was a passion of Cheryl. She retained facts and trivia of United States and Tennessee History. She never stopped nurturing her love of education. She also enjoyed cooking and baking which she was able to pass down to the other generations to carry on. Her love for creating went beyond the kitchen and into the music realm. She loved piano and could play anything and everything, but most of all, her love for hymns carried her when she sat down at a piano. The battle of cancer was won on April 18th. She has been reunited with the family that had preceded her in death and is in the presence of the Lord. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive Tampa, FL 33607.
