Katherine Gaines(1946 - 2017), Murfreesboro, TN. Katherine Lynne Higgins Smith Gaines, age 71, passed away April 25, 2017. She was a native of Rutherford County and lived most of her life in Nashville, Greenbrier and Gallatin. She lived in Manchester the last two years. Katherine was a member of Manchester Church of Christ. She retired from The Nashville Network after 17 years and also worked for Commerce Union Bank, Peterbilt and Hyatt Regency. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Wiley and Kate Miles Higgins; husband, Sammy R. Smith; and brother, Harry Higgins. She is survived by her sons, Nick (Roseanne) Smith of Beechgrove and Sam (Susan) Smith of New Orleans; brother, Joe Higgins, Jr., and grandchildren, Scott Smith, Stone Riddle, Boone Riddle, Grey Riddle, Lucy Riddle and Sophia Smith. Visitation with the family will be 12:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home with Terrell Bunting officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Woodbury, TN, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
