Obituary

Patricia Irene Pendergrass Simpson. After a long, hard fought and brave battle with metastatic colon cancer and then Covid, Patricia Irene Pendergrass Simpson of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in the early morning hours at NHC Franklin. She was 80 years old. Patricia is preceded in death by parents, Hughlin Forrest Pendergrass and Mary Edith Lanning Pendergrass. She was born on August 23, 1940 in Madison, Tennessee. She grew up the 7th of ten children and is preceded in death by nine siblings; Phyllis Marie Bumbalough (James), Hughlin Forrest Pendergrass (Edna), Sterling Tucker Pendergrass (Katie), Eugene Scott Pendergrass, Mary Carolyn Bray (Harold), Kathryn Laverne Pope (Richard), Larry Wayne Pendergrass, Linda Faith Travis (Butch), Gerald Mark Pendergrass (Patricia) (Sheryl). Patricia attended Madison High School where she excelled in Latin and found her love of words.  Anyone who knew her knows how much she loved a good pun! While at Madison High School she enjoyed roller skating and a tasty burger from White Castle. The roller-skating rink is where she met her husband of 18 years, Thomas Earl Simpson. They married and had three children. Patricia is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Faye Simpson Day (James), Shannon Michele Simpson Crants, and Kimberly Denise Simpson Smith. Patricia is survived by seven grandchildren whom she loved (and spoiled) with all her heart; Megan Elizabeth Crants, Sarah Nicole Day Griffin (Braven), Shelby Allison Crants, Ashley Michelle Day Blair (Michael), James Matthew Day, Ryan Austin Crants and Nathan Bradley Smith. Patricia was an active member of Avondale Church of Christ when she lived in Decatur, Georgia. After moving to Nashville, Patricia was active in many Churches of Christ and a faithful supporter of Healing Hands. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when conditions are safer for all.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She will be dearly missed!
