Shirly Lois Phipps, 85, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 in Gallatin. Born March 28, 1936, in Highland Park, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Frank Phipps and Elva Troy Williams Phipps. First and foremost, Shirly was a lady. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. Shirly devoted most of her life to taking care of her parents. She was an articulate and educated woman. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Lipscomb University and her Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University and retired from the Metro Nashville Public School System where she taught High School English. She taught Tai Chi classes at Christian Manor and Hendersonville Senior Center. Her family and friends will remember her as a gentle lady who always had a smile. She is survived by her cousins Nancy Caird of Lake Mary, Florida and Ronald (Johnny) Farmer of San Leon, Texas; her church family at First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville. A graveside service will be on Thursday, January 13, 2022 in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery with Reverend Don Hutchison officiating. Following the service, Shirly will be laid to rest by the parents she cherished so much.
