James A. Scandrick, Jr., Nashville, TN. James A. Scandrick,
age 78, died peacefully in his home in Nashville on June 17, 2017.
He was born in Knoxville and raised by his beloved grandmother. He
first went to Nashville to attend Fisk University where he
matriculated with a degree in Education and returned to Knoxville to
teach. James later went back to Nashville where he had a long
teaching career. He was well known for his musical talents and
served as the Minister of Music at Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church
in Nashville for over 40 years. James was preceded in death by his
grandmother, Girlee (Mama) Scandrick; his father, James Scandrick,
Sr.; several uncles and aunts. He is survived by his uncle, Horace
Scandrick; several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends
nationwide. There will be a brief service on Thursday, July 6, 2017
at 11:00 am at Unity Mortuary, 1425 McCalla Avenue, Knoxville. A
Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 4:00 pm at
Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to the James A. Scandrick Music Scholarship
Fund, Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, c/o Linda Bowers, 1203 9th
Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37208. Arrangements made with integrity
