Obituary

Tammy Gail Staton Ward, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother native to Nashville, TN, died unexpectedly on January 23, 2018 at the age of 55. She went to sleep Monday night, and simply didn't wake up. She passed peacefully in her home of 17 years. Tammy is survived by her husband, Barry Ward; her three sons, BJ Ward and wife Kyla, Danny Ward and wife Allison, and Steven Ward and wife Brandi; her eight grandchildren, Clayton, Addison, Ashton, Mackenzie, Sydney, Greyson, Gideon, and Eisley; her siblings, Donnie Staton and wife Sheila, Penny Hughes, and Phillip Staton and wife Jamie. She is predeceased by her mother, Mildred Christine Staton; her father, Larry Staton; and her first child born sleeping, "Baby Ward." Tammy was born in Nashville in October 1962, where she remained the rest of her days. On January 9, 1982, she married Barry, a hard working, fun loving, and generous man. They built a life together and she dedicated it to raising her boys and in more recent years, spending time and making memories with her grandkids. Tammy's favorite hobbies were cooking, gardening, taking and printing pictures, spending time with her sister, Penny, and relaxing in her backyard pool. In their "honeymoon" years, she and Barry loved to go out and dance the night away. Of all her pastimes, spending time with her eight grandchildren was by far her favorite. She was involved with all of their lives from birth, and she had a special and unique relationship with each of them. She was known as both "Nana" and "Nini", and all of the kids have fond memories of learning to swim in her pool, easter egg hunts in her yard, trick-or-treating on her street, having sleepovers at her house, and taking over every inch of her living room for dinner and movie nights. The kids will hold onto those memories forever and we know she took them to Heaven with her as well. She was loved by many and her absence is heartbreaking; she is deeply missed. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 29, 2018 at Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN with Pastor Clay Baggett officiating. Interment will follow in Hermitage Memorial Gardens with Family & Friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1 -5 pm Sunday, January 28, 2018 and from 12 - 2 pm Monday at the funeral home.
