Obituary

Leon Kay Thompson, age 80 of Old Hickory, June 21, 2009. Preceded in death by parents, Henry Kay and Juanita Holly Thompson. Survived by wife of 57 years, Marie Judd Thompson; daughter, Elizabeth Kaye (Libby) and husband Jere Baxter; son, Brook K. and wife Lane (Coskery) Thompson; grandchildren, David Brandon (Carol) Baxter, James Gibbons Baxter, John Thompson Baxter, Elizabeth Kay Baxter, Sara Marie Thompson, and Henry Lane Thompson; great-granddaughter, Emerson Marie Baxter; siblings, Thomas C. (Merritta) Thompson, Jerome Holly (Jane) Thompson, Anita T. (Gerald) Purvis, and James E. (Becky) Thompson; in-laws, Geneva and James Ray Pugh, and Jim and Margie Judd. He graduated from DuPont High School in 1948 and received a B.A. and M.A. from Peabody College. He served with the U.S. Army Security Agency in Korea during the war, was a founding member and Vice President of Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society, a member of the Old Hickory Veterans Memorial Committee, Commander of American Legion Post 91, a teacher at Madison High School for 27 years, and a member of Old Hickory United Methodist Church for 70 years, where he was a faithful choir member. Visitation at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home Hadley Chapel Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. Service Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Old Hickory United Methodist Church, 1216 Hadley Ave., Old Hickory, with the Reverends Jim Norton, Don Choate, and Libby Baxter officiating. Interment at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and nephews to serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers: Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Veterans Memorial Committee, and Officers American Legion Post 91.
