Obituary

Hollis Steve Tidwell, 76, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 2, 2019 after a valiant battle against ALS. Steve passed peacefully and comfortably at home surrounded by his beloved family. Steve was born to the late Lillian Williams Gannon and the late James Walker Tidwell in Nashville, TN on May 4, 1942. He was a graduate of Madison High School, Class of 1960, and the University of Tennessee, Class of 1965, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. Steve became the Vice President of Real Estate and Construction for Shoney’s Inc. and was a franchisee of Captain D’s for over 43 years. He served in the Tennessee Air National Guard, the Nashville Metropolitan Planning Commission, O’Charley’s Board of Directors, and was a founding member of the Joshua Chamberlain Society of Nashville, TN. Steve was a kind and humble man. In business as in life, he was a man of honor and integrity. He was a loyal friend who enriched the lives of all those he touched. His love of travel and adventure led him to the far corners of the globe. He loved hunting in Mississippi and Argentina, fishing in the Boundary Waters, and snow skiing with family and friends. Steve is survived by his loving family; his wife of 51 years, Carolyn; his son Fletcher Tidwell (Jill), daughter Katie Woodcock (Chuck), and daughter Stephanie Gillmor (Matthew); his eight grandchildren Trey, Bennett, Waller, Beau, Evelyn, Hollis, Mary Allis, Teddy; his brother Clay Tidwell (Boo) and family, and sisters Annette Zamek (Seth) and Paulette Harvey (Carl). He will be dearly missed by his loved ones. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4th from 6-8 PM at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. The Celebration of Life will be on Friday, April 5th at 1PM with a reception to follow. The Reverend Dave Wilson will officiate the service.
