Obituary

Charles Warner Woodall Sr., 80, of Madison, TN, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2020 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. He was born on January 22, 1940, in Old Hickory, TN. He was the son of George L. and Birda (Malone) Woodall. He attended Madison High School and continued his education at Belmont University in Nashville, TN, graduating with a Bachelor of Science and Education Degree while spending his time on the Belmont Bruins baseball team. Following graduation, Charles taught with Metro Nashville Public Schools for 34 years, starting his career at Bordeaux Elementary School and ultimately spending 31 years teaching at Highland Heights Middle School. Outside of his classroom at Highland Heights, Charles gave his time coaching football, basketball, wrestling, and track. He married Kathryn T. (Cummins) on June 12, 1971 until she passed in September 1996. They were the proud parents of Charles W. Jr., and Andrew T. As a family, they enjoyed traveling to Education Conferences every year, playing golf, and exploring their mutual love of trains. Charles and Ruth (Page) were married November 14th 1998. They loved to spend time with family, travel, play golf, go to flea markets, raise dogs, and attend Bluegrass shows. He was a member of City Road Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of the Friendship Sunday School class, Madison Masonic Lodge, Al Menah Shrine Temple, and Old Hickory Country Club. He was a lifetime member of the United Teachers Profession (Metro Nashville, Tennessee), and National Education Associations. He served for years as a Board Member of Madison Little League and was the first President of Madison Senior League Baseball Organization. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Woodall; his sons, Charles Jr and Wendy of Donelson, TN, and Andrew and Elizabeth of White House, TN; his grandchildren, Chandler, Val, Allison, and Jackson; his Uncles Ray (Peggy) Woodall and Bobby (Yvonne) Woodall; his Brothers-in-Law Roger (Carol) Page, Rudy (Kim) Page, and Hubert Cummins; Sisters-in-Law Rita Smith, Lisa (Eddie) King, Mary Grey Jenkins, Nancy Lee Outlawe, multiple cousins and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Birda Woodall; and his first wife, Kathryn Woodall. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 4pm to 8pm and Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 10am to 12pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Madison, TN. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 12pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Madison, TN. As Charles stated at his Retiring Teachers Banquet, “When your gut tells you it’s time to retire…Retire!” The family asked that memorials be sent to City Road Chapel Outreach Ministries, Madison, TN.
